Celebrating the Transformative Impact of Moving the Mob on First Nations Communities

During this Reconciliation Week, we are proud to highlight the incredible success of our Moving the Mob program, which has been transforming lives and empowering communities in Rockhampton, Mackay, Bowen, Berri, Murray Bridge, Mount Gambier and Frankston.

Since 2023, IntoJobs delivered by MRAEL and Mas National, have run 15 programs, with a total of 128 participants successfully completing the journey. We couldn’t be prouder of their achievements!

One of the standout success stories is that of Teeal Tanna, a young 20-year-old First Nations man from Mackay who overcame significant challenges, including domestic violence and a serious crime. Despite these obstacles, Teeal has shown remarkable determination and has achieved 100% attendance throughout the Moving the Mob program.

Teeal’s transformation is nothing short of inspiring. He is now an active participant in the Work for the Dole program, has a passion for youth mentoring, and has established the ToBeScoTai Yarning Circle. This circle, a branch off from Moving the Mob, provides a culturally safe environment for the mob to come together, seek assistance, and progress into employment.

Teeal is also working towards a job in the mines and is actively involved in volunteering at the Bowen Neighbourhood Centre.
We are also grateful to Uncle Wade, our Local Elder of Darumbal, and Mas National First Nations Advisor Shane Williams, who provided support to the program and shared their wisdom and cultural insights.

Moving the Mob is more than just a program; it’s a movement that empowers participants to tell their stories, set personal goals, and gain the skills they need to succeed. We are excited to see this program expand to other regions and continue to support First Nations people across Australia.

This Reconciliation Week, let’s celebrate the achievements of all our participants. Their stories remind us of the importance of walking together, listening and supporting each other to create a more inclusive and equitable future.
