From Setbacks to Success: How Cameron Built a New Future with IntoJobs’ Support

After leaving school early, Cameron was eager to carve out his own path in life. However, living in the remote town of Mt Larcom in Queensland made it challenging for him to find work or gain new skills. With limited work experience and a lack of opportunities, he decided to move to Gladstone, where he connected with IntoJobs as his Workforce Australia provider.

At 21, Cameron was staying in emergency accommodation and grappling with mental health issues as he navigated the road to independence.

Initially hesitant, he started attending regular appointments with his Mobile Employment Consultant (MEC), Danielle.

Danielle noticed Cameron was lacking confidence and referred him to Match-Fit, a self-development course offered by Prime Effect.

This course provided Cameron with the tools to manage his mental health and strategies to stay resilient in the face of challenges. As his confidence grew, he completed a Working at Heights and Confined Space certificate, which opened doors to employment in the construction industry.

Danielle reflected on the incredible transformation in Cameron’s confidence, noting how far he had come in such a short time. A key turning point came when Cameron actively began applying for jobs and was shortlisted for an interview for the highly competitive Alumina Producer Traineeship at Queensland Alumina Limited (QAL). Despite the hundreds of applicants, Cameron stood out and was one of only 15 candidates selected for the role.

Since his move to Gladstone, Cameron has made remarkable strides. He has secured stable accommodation and is set to start his new role in April. IntoJobs will continue to support him by regularly checking in with both Cameron and his new employer in the coming months.
