Tamica was keen to work in hospitality but needed some guidance to find the right direction.

Limited professional experience, minimal hospitality skills and an unpredictable labour market in Mount Gambier (SA) meant she had to overcome a few hurdles on her way to finding a fulfilling role.

Recognising Tamica’s enthusiasm and willingness to learn, the team at IntoJobs* provided tailored support to help her strengthen her capability and build job‑ready skills.

Tamica was enrolled in a five‑week HITsa hospitality pre‑employment program designed to refresh industry knowledge, develop practical skills and prepare participants for the realities of today’s hospitality workplace.

Through the program, Tamica completed a broad range of accredited training, including workplace health and safety, food safety and hygiene, customer service, workplace communication, point of sale operations, responsible service of alcohol and espresso coffee preparation.

Combined with hands-on experience in bar and customer service, the training equipped her with the skills, confidence and professionalism required to succeed in a fast paced hospitality environment.

IntoJobs Mobile Employment Consultant, Izzy Gregory, worked closely with Tamica to identify suitable opportunities in the local hospitality sector. “Tamica was really keen to get back into work and wasn’t afraid to put in the effort to build her skills,” Izzy said. “It’s been great to see her confidence grow and to watch her settle into a role where she’s doing so well.”

Tamica was referred to the Victoria Hotel Port MacDonnell where she soon started work as an all-rounder in the vibrant local pub. Since her very first day, Tamica has received consistent positive feedback and proved herself to be a positive and valued member of the team.

Izzy said Tamica’s journey is a great example of the difference a little support can make. “Tamica came to us eager to work and open to personal growth. By combining the right training with the right opportunity, she’s been able to step into the role with self-belief and fit right in with the team,” Izzy said.

Tamica’s journey provides another clear example of how collaboration between job seekers, training providers and employers can create life-changing outcomes for individuals that lead to lasting success.
