Grant Woodland had reached a point in his career where the work-life balance had to swing further in favour of time with his family.

While living in Morgan (SA)*, Grant was commuting to the Barossa Valley each day for his role with the renowned Maggie Beer food enterprise. After six months of spending many hours travelling between home and work, the lengthy commute was taking valuable time away from loved ones and limiting his involvement in the local community.

Determined to find a more sustainable opportunity, Grant connected with our IntoJobs team in search of something closer to home. Through IntoJobs’ mobile service delivery model, Grant was able to attend face-to-face appointments in Morgan, with Mobile Employment Consultant Jennifer Davis travelling from the Berri office to provide outreach support locally.

Along the way, Grant received practical support with work-related clothing and fuel costs as he worked towards securing employment closer to home.

Grant initially secured a role with Golden Hill Packing, significantly reducing his travel and allowing him to spend more time with his family.

He later took another positive step, securing work as a postie with the Morgan Post Office.  Instead of facing long hours on the road, Grant can now walk to work in his local town.

The change has given him more time at home and enabled him to enjoy the benefits of living and working in his own community.

“Being able to work close to home has made a huge difference,” Grant said. “I love my job, and I get to spend quality time with my wife and friends instead of being on the road.”

Grant’s experience shows that employment support isn’t only about finding work. Sometimes, it is about finding work that fits a person’s life and helps them stay connected to the people and community that matter most.
