Four young jobseekers from Melbourne’s south-east* are busy at work after securing employment with support from IntoJobs and employer partner Chandler Macleod.
For many young people entering the workforce for the first time, finding employment can be challenging. Limited work experience, uncertainty about career pathways and the demands of the recruitment process can make it difficult to take that first step.
Dean Sheridan, Nekeytah Cole, Callen Wheeler and Kaylah Paech were all determined to start their careers but needed support to connect with suitable opportunities and navigate the path to employment.
Working alongside the participants, IntoJobs Mobile Employment Consultant Abi Bansal provided tailored support to help them prepare for the workforce. This included developing professional resumes, preparing for interviews, exploring career options and connecting participants with employment opportunities that matched their goals and strengths.
“Everybody we see has a different story and different needs,” Abi said. “It’s important we take the time to listen and build a plan that will lead to the most positive outcome. I feel lucky this cohort came to us with open minds, enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.”
Practical assistance on the go
Abi also provided practical assistance throughout the recruitment process, helping participants complete pre-employment requirements and build the confidence needed to take advantage of new opportunities.
A strong partnership with Chandler Macleod helped open the door to employment opportunities, guiding the participants through recruitment, onboarding and employment preparation.
IntoJobs’ Mobile Servicing Model played an important role in supporting the group, with Abi transporting two participants to complete mandatory drug and alcohol testing required for employment opportunities.
By removing practical barriers and providing support when it was needed most, the mobile servicing approach helped participants successfully complete the final stages of the recruitment process.
Today, all participants have commenced employment and are demonstrating reliability, commitment and a willingness to learn as they continue to settle into the workforce.
Reflecting on the experience, Abi said one of the most rewarding aspects was seeing the determination shown by the young jobseekers throughout their journey.
“Many of the jobseekers were entering the workforce for the first time, but they stayed focused on their goals and embraced every opportunity we gave them,” he said. “Seeing all participants secure employment and settle in is a great result and I’m confident they are all headed for ongoing success.”
