How small steps can lead to meaningful work and a strong future

When Lachlan Milne first connected with our IntoJobs office in Cannonvale (QLD)*, he was facing a number of personal and practical barriers that made employment feel out of reach. Disengaged and unsure of the value of attending appointments, Lachlan struggled to see a clear path forward. Much of his time and energy had been dedicated to supporting his mother through a difficult period – leaving little space for job searching or self-development.

Lachlan also faced challenges in building a sustainable employment history. He had limited formal experience, some temporary casual work, and a skillset that needed strengthening before he could confidently step into a long-term role. Attending appointments and activities was difficult, and accepting external support felt even harder.

Things began to shift when Lachlan’s employment consultant, Natasha, took the time to understand his situation, his pressures and the barriers standing in his way. Together, they created a realistic and achievable plan – one that allowed Lachlan to take small, consistent steps without becoming overwhelmed.

To begin building his skills and employment readiness, Lachlan agreed to attend one activity each month. This approach helped him have the space he needed to grow at a steady pace. Slowly but surely, Lachlan began to re-engage.

He completed his White Card training course and attended the Resilience Reset Workshop delivered by Mas Allied Health, which helped him better understand himself and build confidence.

Lachlan also took part in group workshops focused on interview preparation and financial literacy sessions. Each of these activities played a part in strengthening his readiness for meaningful employment.

Over six months of consistent support from IntoJobs, Lachlan turned a corner. From someone who once struggled to interact or see hope in his future, he grew into a motivated, job ready candidate with renewed confidence.

Today, he’s enjoying his full-time job and thriving in his new role in property maintenance. From feeling disconnected and isolated to becoming a confident employee with a clear path ahead, Lachlan’s transformation highlights the rewards of professional support and personal resilience.
