From Self-Doubt to Success

Elsa Coutts’ passion for do-it-yourself (DIY) crafts blossomed while organising birthday parties for her young son.

Inspired to share her expertise with fellow parents, Elsa founded her business, Lil House Party.

Shortly after launching her themed pop-up party business, Elsa recognised the need for additional support due to limited initial marketing results and to refine her business idea with strategic direction and execution.

“This is my first experience running a business and it’s difficult when you’re a sole trader and you’re doing everything yourself,” she said.

That’s when Elsa discovered the Self-Employment Assistance program, delivered by IntoJobs (part of the IntoWork Group).

The program offers practical and confidential guidance and support on all aspects of starting and running a small business – from coaching, registering business names, website domains, business plan development, mentoring, and setting up an ABN through to financial, marketing, and strategic advice.

Guided by her IntoJobs Business Navigator, Steve Chapple, Elsa enrolled in the eight-week training program, then signed up to a 12-month Small Business Coaching agreement that provides ongoing business mentoring, guidance and support.

“Steve helped strengthen my business and build my confidence, without that help and support I would have missed out on great opportunities.”

Notably, Steve connected Elsa to Library Services at Wattle Range Council. Manager Janice supported Elsa’s venture by allowing a flyer to be placed in the library area and provision of space for a display.

Elsa was given a dedicated area during Youth Week activities to promote her services. “It was great brainstorming on how to set up, advertise and speak with families. It was so important to get that feedback and experience.”

Empowered by new-found confidence, Elsa is focused on expanding the business. She is creating a range of digital party printables, available in ready-to-print and customisable formats. For more information on Lil House Party, go to
